Our Orange Tree

Our Orange Tree is laden with fruit at the moment.  A previous owner of our house was a gardener with the council and planted alot of fruit trees.  Unfortunately we’ve lost a few of them lately as very hot weather for a few summers has taken it’s toll.

Today my daughter Emma and I went out the back in the winter sunshine to pick some of the oranges.  I thought a refreshing salad would be nice to make with them.  If you’d like a cake recipe though to make with oranges, sometime ago I posted a Moroccan Orange Cake recipe that’s deliciously moist, quick to make and has been very popular.

Fennel and Orange Salad
Rocket (Arugula)
1 bulb fennel (anise), slice an amount enough for the size salad you’re making – video on how to prepare fennel below.
1 Orange, peeled and cut into segments

Dressing
2 Tblsp olive oil
4 Tblsp juice from an orange
1 tsp dijon mustard
salt and pepper

Layer some rocket leaves, sliced fennel and orange slices on a platter.

Place dressing ingredients into a jar, screw on lid and shake to mix together.

Drizzle dressing over the top and serve.

How to clean Fennel.

What lovely photos Catherine and you're so lucky to have an orange tree. I so dream of owning fruit trees in my garden one day…. I've made a very similar orange salad, it's so delicious, the flavours go together beautifully. Have a lovely weekend xox

How wonderful and what lovely photos!!!

You make me want and get a big glass of freshly pressed orange juice

That Morrocan Orange cake looks so moist and yum!

Now the fennel and orange salad is a must and classic. Love it. Especially if you can get really good arugula and young fennel.

    Have a lovely weekend xx

you have an ORANGE tree? it never snows there, right? i'm so happy for you. we're picking blueberries tomorrow (if it doesn't rain), and we picked the first ones last saturday. they were eaten by sunday evening. i wonder if your oranges will go the same way? no salad necessary. joy to you!

caroline@trend-daily, The Life Of Clare, Mel & Tina: Thank you, yes it's great having fruit trees in the backyard especially oranges.

Noreen – No it doesn't snow here, except in the mountains at winter time (if we're lucky). You're right in Summer no salad necessary just pick an orange straight off the tree, it's so refreshing. Enjoy your blueberry picking,

This is one of my all-time favorite salads, and I'd give anything to have an orange tree. We've started a lemon tree in a pot this summer, and we're thrilled at our one teeny tiny lemon! We'll have to bring it inside in the winter, but who cares?
